WHY DOES A MAN... LOSE WEIGHT FASTER THAN A WOMAN? DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH - - BODY COMPOSITION?

I had a patient come to the office the other day. I could tell by her voice and how she was carrying herself, she was upset. When I asked her what was wrong she told me. "Why is my husband losing weight faster than I am?"
Great question, and here's what I told her.

"As you lose weight, this happens first. First of all, if you're not doing anything different, other than our weight loss protocol, your energy requirements will decrease.
Now the lighter you become, the fewer calories (energy) you need to maintain your current weight, assuming that you don't change your activity levels, and when that happens, that means... you'll burn less fat... if you're still doing the same activity level."

EXAMPLE: A 200-pound woman will use up 1,650 calories merely staying alive, at complete rest, but a 155-pound woman will need 200 calories less to survive at the same level as the 200-pound woman.
The heavier woman will burn 750 calories in an hour of exercising, (if she is exercising correctly) while the latter will use up only about 600 calories.

FACT: Men, on average, will lose weight faster than women. Muscle needs more energy than fat and thus, as you exercise by lifting more let's say, the more fat you'll burn per pound of body weight. Most of the time, women lose their weight slower than a man because men just have more muscle than women. It is a seemingly unfair double-whammy.

How can you deal with that? Well, you Start by doing body weight exercises and then move on to lifting weights at the gym to help counteract this effect.

Until next time stay healthy my friend,
